More information about this animal sculpture bronze plaque below.
Since early childhood, artist Dawn Senior-Trask has loved to explore the draw
near her family’s log home, where a little creek flows, fed by mountain snowmelt
and a series of springs. Small waterfalls babble over mossy granite outcrops,
and in the deeper pools beneath, the colorful brook trout dwell. They feed on
the populous larvae of caddis flies, stoneflies, mayflies, dragonflies and other
water creatures.

The great blue heron maneuvers her giant wings through the thick cottonwoods,
and settles to wade for a trout to take home to her young. At the slightest
disturbance the brookies dart into the shadows of overhanging banks, rocks and
scouring-rushes. Nevertheless, the osprey who hovers above the creek, watching
patiently with sharp eyes, makes his sudden dive and emerges from the current
with a 4-inch trout dangling in his talons.

Once, when drought had dried most of the creek, Dawn found a dozen grown trout
struggling for breath in a pool. She ran to the cabin for a large bucket, filled
it with water, and gently caught the trout, one by one, in her hands. She put
them in the bucket and carried them downstream to a larger, spring-fed pool.
Here she released them, and watched happily as their gills filled with oxygen
and they wriggled into feeding position, heads upstream.

"I don't like Dawn's
drawings, I worship them and feel great pride and much humility
that my poems struck such searing fire in her creative woodlands. I can
say only 'Bless her!', for sharing in my dreams, and working them into
reality." - Poet Virginia Love Long, author of the book Squaw Winter
