"I have given [my children and sister] every bronze done with the native floral and fauna of Wyoming.  They all show [Dawn's] love of nature and her home state of Wyoming.  Her woodcuts are the best I have ever seen.  Somehow she is able to incorporate many colors which is unusual in comparison to others I've seen." - Patty Lufkin, Owner of Blackhawk Gallery

"Dawn's paintings reach out and grab the observer in unique and marvelous ways."

Crossing the Draw -- horse painting

Dawn Senior-Trask, of Moonhorse Art Studio, has worked in a wide variety of media including charcoal, oil paintings, woodcuts, gouaches, claybords and scratchboards. Her artwork, especially her oil paintings, are a unique way of looking at the memories and culture of the West -- memories and reflections of the lifestyles this western artist has experienced during the many years she has lived in a log cabin near Saratoga, Wyoming.

An accomplished rider since childhood, Dawn Senior, of Moonhorse Art Studio, translates her love and respect of horses into her artwork. Her skill in vividly capturing the spirit and freedom of the horse is surpassed only by her sensitive attention to detail and her anatomical accuracy.

Crossing the Draw – Dawn’s horse painting vividly captures the spirit and movement of horses, especially the wild mustangs of Wyoming.

"David and I have so enjoyed having your artwork to gaze upon.  Several nights ago we spent some time commenting on your large painting of the horses.  After speculating on which of the horses was dominant, their gender and so forth, we concluded that you captured them so well that they might as well be running through our living room.  It is just plain wonderful to be surrounded by so much beauty."  Mrs. David Nowlin, Redmond, Oregon

In midsummer, when the cheat grass has turned purplish-red in the glow of evening, the horses come charging down the ravine’s wall toward the creek. They always seem excited and a bit fearful, their instincts as prey animals alerted by the rock formations and cedars, where mountain lions might be lying in wait. An owl launching from a cottonwood branch, a trout leaping from the current, or a coyote rustling through the brush might spook the horses and make them gallop away despite their thirst. Sometimes the boss gelding will use a low-ranking mare as a guinea pig, chasing her down ahead. If she gets across without being attacked, the others figure it’s safe to follow. In this horse painting, artist Dawn Senior-Trask catches the color, movement and excitement of the horses crossing the draw.

"I don't like Dawn's drawings, I worship them and feel great pride and much humility that my poems struck such searing fire in her creative woodlands.  I can say only 'Bless her!', for sharing in my dreams, and working them into reality." - Poet Virginia Love Long, author of the book Squaw Winter
