"I have given [my children and sister] every bronze done with the native floral and fauna of Wyoming.  They all show [Dawn's] love of nature and her home state of Wyoming.  Her woodcuts are the best I have ever seen.  Somehow she is able to incorporate many colors which is unusual in comparison to others I've seen." - Patty Lufkin, Owner of Blackhawk Gallery

"Dawn's paintings reach out and grab the observer in unique and marvelous ways."

Pronghorn Dreams Scratchboard - Wyoming wildlife scratchboard

Dawn Senior-Trask, of Moonhorse Art Studio, has worked in a wide variety of media including charcoal, oil paintings, woodcuts, gouaches, claybords and scratchboards. This artist has gained a love and unique understanding of the wildlife of the West - unique personalities and the often amusing relationships of the wildlife and their relationships with people. This understanding is reflected in her Wyoming wildlife claybords and scratchboards.

Wyoming is the pronghorn haven of the world, having more of these unique creatures within its borders than it has people.  Pronghorns are often called "antelope," but they are not really antelope.  They are not closely related to deer, either.  They are an ancient species which continues to mystify even the experts.

Pronghorn migrate in great numbers across the vast regions of Wyoming, and in the river valley where Dawn and her family live, they gather in large herds in the winter and travel down from the higher sagebrush-filled parks in the mountains, to forage on the sagebrush of the ancient floodplain, sheltered by the cedar hills.  From the cabin window Dawn and her family have often watched herds of several hundred pronghorns racing across the pastures and prairie below.  They are the fastest animals in North America, reaching speeds of up to 50 m.p.h.  Coyotes sometimes run relays trying to catch them, and golden eagles harass them, trying to cut a youngster from the herd, but Dawn has never seen any of these attempts succeed.

"I don't like Dawn's drawings, I worship them and feel great pride and much humility that my poems struck such searing fire in her creative woodlands.  I can say only 'Bless her!', for sharing in my dreams, and working them into reality." - Poet Virginia Love Long, author of the book Squaw Winter
