"I have given [my children and sister] every bronze done with the native floral and fauna of Wyoming.  They all show [Dawn's] love of nature and her home state of Wyoming.  Her woodcuts are the best I have ever seen.  Somehow she is able to incorporate many colors which is unusual in comparison to others I've seen." - Patty Lufkin, Owner of Blackhawk Gallery

"Dawn's paintings reach out and grab the observer in unique and marvelous ways."

More information about this wildlife sculpture in bronze below.

Since childhood, Dawn has made detailed drawings of the wild plants, animals and insects who share the rough, sage-covered Wyoming foothills where she grew up.

Among granite boulders and broken cliffs where ancient, wind-twisted cedars dance; along high ridges where herds of pronghorns, mule deer and elk can see for a hundred miles; deep in cottonwood draws where the creek rushes and pools; cradled in the soft sand of coppice dunes ¾ in all these places the artist’s eyes have taken in the graceful lines and dynamic rhythms of even the smallest life forms.

Twenty-two species reveal themselves in this wildlife sculpture in bronze, from the large, musky blooms and curled, velvety leaves of balsamroot, to the delicate patterns of butterfly wings, to the succulent fruits of wild raspberries ripe for the bears. A tiny toad nestles in sandy soil where pale, clustered broomrape grows. A zephyr anglewing butterfly flutters among the leaves of a wax currant shrub dangling its round, red berries above the creek. Further down the bank, an orange-bordered blue rests among the burr-like seeds of wild licorice. Atop a rocky, sunny ridge, an iridescent green longhorn beetle with bold yellow markings seems to have fallen asleep over its lunch of prickly pear pollen. On the fluffy heads of wooly plantain a checkerspot butterfly feeds. With her loving touch, the wildlife sculpture in bronze recreates these delights in applied detail upon a vase whose full, graceful curves suggest the lavish abundance and variety of life.

"I don't like Dawn's drawings, I worship them and feel great pride and much humility that my poems struck such searing fire in her creative woodlands.  I can say only 'Bless her!', for sharing in my dreams, and working them into reality." - Poet Virginia Love Long, author of the book Squaw Winter
